The first time I was in Mindanao was almost three years ago, in 2013. I was still working in PLDT and we had to go there for a CONECT event with (if I remember correctly) a group of electronics and communications engineers.
It was an overnight stay in Cagayan De Oro (CDO), and all I remember doing was meeting up with our local media contact, eating yummy seafood in a nice restaurant, working, and eating halo-halo in a buko shell. No sightseeing whatsoever and we were back in Manila in no time.
From then on, I have always wanted to go back. For one, to finally be able to try white water rafting (a CDO must-do) and to explore the rest of Mindanao. And I’m glad and giddy to have finally been able to do that just last month with my high school buddies.
Troopers all, we went to CDO, Camiguin, and Bukidnon and had a grand time taking in the views, eating, playing by the sea and sand, snorkeling, eating some more, and of course, spending time with each other. 🙂
We plan to make this a yearly thing — traveling together — and I’m already excited for the many adventures ahead!
Here are some photos from our trip. The beaches were splendid — but the longest zipline ride in Bukidnon’s Dahilayan Adventure Park was something. I felt like Superman. IT WAS SO THRILLING.
Right after settling in our hotel, we went white water rafting! We had to go in separate boats and here is our team — Team Ponce. 😛
The key to white water rafting is coordination and lots of teamwork and I’m proud to say our team did quite well! It was an exhilarating experience and the view along CDO river is AMAZING. Too bad we didn’t bring any cameras since we expected to get all wet.
The following day we traveled to Camiguin where we explored Mantigue Island, the Old Church Ruins, and the famous Sunken Cemetery. Only spectacular views in this place and I found the old church to be particularly charming. 🙂
We were up early morning the next day to catch the sunrise in White Island. Places like this bring me in awe of just how magnificent the Philippines is.
And of course there’s Bukidnon’s Dahilayan Adventure Park! Asia’s longest zipline was so much FUN!!!
Good times! 🙂
