One of the highlights of this year would have to be JV and I’s first travel experience together — in the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao.
We were talking about this trip recently and we both agreed that it had been such an enriching relationship feat — planning and going on a trip together proved to be both fun and revealing. 🙂
For one, we had to decide if we will push through with the said trip given that the Davao City bombing happened just a week prior. We also had to plan all the logistics for our four-day stay in Samal (we did not spend much time in Davao City anymore, for safety reasons) plus that lingering thought on whether we can stomach each other’s presence for a couple of days. Haha.
The result was a crazy fun trip which was one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve had in a while.
I’m used to going on trips with packed itineraries (take my Bangkok excursion earlier this year, for example) that I end up more tired than rested after. This Samal vacation was different, because we were able to space our activities and destinations evenly over the course of four days, thus giving us time to really just “stop and smell the roses”. We visited Hagimit Falls, went snorkeling and beach bumming in Talicud Island, bonded with the bats at the Monfort Bat Sanctuary, and conquered the giant slide in Maxima Aqua Fun. We had a blast!
It’s also key to note that traveling really does make couples know each other more. I also have to say that there’s a certain charm to just passing the time in between boat and habal rides with random conversations on the most mundane topics. It’s a good test of whether you guys click well enough to have a grand time even when you’re just staring at the sky, sand, or trees. 🙂
And here are some of my favorite snaps from our Samal trip!
